Features of Miki Hardware Trowel

Trowels have been an absolute necessity for living and living since the origin of humankind.
In Japanese history, it is confirmed that there was a plasterer occupation during the Muromachi period (1400).
In Miki, during the Kaei era (around 1850), Rokusuke Iwasa trained in Edo and started manufacturing trowels in Miki.
It is said to be the origin.
After 19 steps such as material-cutting-forging-quenching-shaping-drilling, etc.
A tough trowel that is proud of more sticky professionals is made.

Manufacturing process

1Raw materials

Uses carbon tool steel.

2Material cutting

Cut the steel to the size of the blade.

3Forging (roughing)

Heat the steel to heat (800-900℃) and forge it with a mallet to form a shape.

4Annealing

The structure of steel disordered by forge welding and forging is placed in a furnace heated to 750℃ and slowly cooled to spheroidize the structure.

5Leveling smoothing

Remove distortion while hitting with a mallet.

6Shaping (immediately)

Shape it with a grinder or the like.

7Drilling and drilling

Make a hole in the steel to attach the neck.

8Inscription

Shape the neck with a grinder.

9Quenching

Work to harden steel by heating it to 780 to 800℃, soaking it in water and quenching it.

10Tempering

Heat to 180℃ to make the steel sticky.

11Distortion removal

歪を取る。

12Rough sharpening

Polish with a grinder.

13Surface finish sharpening

Use a buff to make the back side glossy.

14Neck construction

Build a pillar that connects the steel and the handle.

15Squeeze

Squeeze the steel and neck together.

16Back finish sharpening

Polish the unevenness caused by caulking by polishing.

17Distortion

Remove the distortion caused by finishing.

18Patterning

Attach a wooden handle.
